Overview

CashStash is a peer-to-peer wallet app that lets users send US dollars directly to one another. Sodio built the app, bringing money transfer, in-app messaging and core wallet features together in a single mobile experience. The idea behind it is simple. Most money between people changes hands as part of a conversation — splitting a bill, paying a friend back, settling up after a trip. CashStash puts the payment right next to that conversation, so users can agree an amount in a message and send it without leaving the app. Around the transfers sit the wallet functions users expect from any money app: a clear balance, a complete transaction history, and a straightforward way to move money in and out. Every feature was designed so that sending money feels as easy as sending a message, without ever feeling careless with it.

/// The Brief

The client wanted a peer-to-peer payments app that felt social rather than transactional. Existing apps treated sending money as a banking task, kept separate from the conversations where people actually decide to pay each other. That separation added friction to the most common reason people move money at all.

The brief was a wallet where users could chat and pay in the same place, send US dollars to each other quickly, and always see exactly where their money stood. Because the app would hold and move real money, it also had to be secure and reliable enough that users trusted it with every transfer.

/// Our Approach

We designed the app around the conversation. Messaging and payments sit side by side, so a user can agree an amount in a chat and send it without switching to another app or another screen flow. That turns payment from a separate task into a natural next step. For the transfer itself, the priority was speed and certainty. Sending money takes a few taps, and the user sees straight away what was sent, to whom, and whether it went through.

In a money app, any doubt about whether a payment succeeded is the fastest way to lose trust, so every state is made explicit. Underneath, the wallet was built to handle real money carefully: protected authentication, accurate balance and transaction records, and controls around every transfer. The aim was an app that feels as light as messaging while behaving with the reliability people expect from anything that holds their money.

/// The Result

The result is CashStash: a peer-to-peer wallet app where users can message each other and send US dollars in the same place. By bringing chat and payments together, the app removes the gap between deciding to pay someone and actually paying them. Settling up takes seconds, and users always know where their money stands. CashStash shows what a wallet looks like when it is designed around how people really move money between themselves — in conversation, casually and often — while keeping every transfer clear, secure and accounted for.
