Eternal Message – Legacy Messaging App
A mobile app that lets people record video, audio and text messages for the people they love, kept safe and delivered after they have gone — on a date they choose, or when a trusted advocate confirms their passing.
Overview
Eternal Message is a mobile app for leaving messages to be passed on after you have gone. Users record video, audio or written messages for specific friends and family, and the app keeps them safe until the moment they are meant to be received. Sodio built the app across iOS, Android and web.
Messages can be released in two ways. Some are scheduled for a future date the user chooses — a daughter’s birthday, a grandson’s anniversary. Others stay sealed until a trusted advocate, chosen by the user, confirms their passing. Only the designated recipient can open a message left for them.
The app also works where connectivity does not. Messages can be recorded without an internet connection and are backed up automatically once the device reconnects. A unique QR code can link messages to a final resting place, so a loved one visiting can scan it and hear what was left for them.

/// The Brief
The client came to Sodio with an idea that asks more of software than almost anything else: a way for people to leave messages for their loved ones that would be delivered after they had died, and kept safe for as long as it took.
That set an unusual brief. The app had to be simple enough for anyone to record a message at an emotional moment, private enough that only the intended person could ever see it, and dependable over years rather than weeks — because the whole point is a promise that has to be kept long after the person who made it is gone.
/// Our Approach
We treated the release of a message as the most important moment in the product. A message should never be opened too early, and never lost. Scheduled messages release on the date the user sets. Everything else stays sealed until the user’s chosen advocate confirms their passing, so no automated guess ever decides that someone has died.
Privacy runs through every part of the design. Each message is assigned to a specific person, and only that person can open it. Content is backed up automatically to protect against loss, and users can review, change or remove what they have left at any time.
Recording had to feel easy at a moment that is anything but. The interface is deliberately simple, messages can be recorded as video, audio or text, and recording works offline, syncing when the phone reconnects, so a message can be captured whenever the moment comes. A persona timeline brings everything a user has saved into one place.
/// The Result
The result is Eternal Message: an app that lets people record messages for the people they love and have them delivered after they are gone — on a chosen date, or once a trusted advocate confirms their passing.
Every message is private to its recipient, backed up against loss, and can be recorded anywhere, with or without a connection. A QR code can connect messages to a final resting place, so they can be heard where people go to remember.
It is one of the most personal things software can be asked to carry, and the build reflects that: simple to use, strict about privacy, and designed to keep its promise for as long as it takes.
