Overview

IBEXCM is a cryptocurrency exchange that operated in Guatemala, giving users a complete platform to buy, sell and hold crypto assets. Sodio built the exchange end to end — the trading engine, wallets, onboarding and the operational tools behind them.

The platform covers everything a working exchange needs. A real-time order book and matching engine handle market and limit orders. Integrated wallets manage deposits, withdrawals and balances across supported assets. KYC onboarding verifies users before they trade, and live charts and trade history give traders what they need to act.

Behind the user-facing product sits an administration layer that lets the operator manage users, monitor trading activity, review withdrawals and keep the exchange running safely. It is the part of the exchange users never see, and the part that decides whether it can operate at all.

/// The Brief

The client wanted to launch a full cryptocurrency exchange in Guatemala — not a simple buy-and-sell app, but a genuine trading venue with an order book, real-time matching and custody of user funds.

That raised the bar on every part of the build. An exchange is trusted with other people’s money, so wallets and withdrawals had to be secure by design. Trading had to be fast and correct under load, because a matching error is a financial loss rather than a bug. And the operator needed the tools to run the exchange day to day, including verifying users and reviewing withdrawals before funds left the platform.

/// Our Approach

We treated the matching engine as the heart of the platform. Orders are matched in real time against a live order book, with balances updated so that a trade either completes fully or not at all. There is no state in which funds sit half-transferred between two accounts.

Security shaped the custody layer throughout: controls around every withdrawal, verification before funds leave the platform, and two-factor protection on user accounts. For an exchange, the consequences of a security failure are immediate and irreversible, so these controls were built in from the start rather than added later.

The operator side received as much attention as the trading screen. The administration panel gives the exchange team visibility of users, trading activity, deposits and withdrawals, with KYC review and the ability to act on suspicious activity. Onboarding was designed to verify users properly without turning sign-up into a barrier.

/// The Result

The result is IBEXCM: a complete cryptocurrency exchange that operated in Guatemala, with real-time trading, integrated wallets, KYC onboarding and a full administration layer.

Users got a genuine trading venue rather than a simple buy-and-sell app — a live order book, market and limit orders, charts and trade history, with deposits and withdrawals handled on the same platform.

For the operator, the platform provided the controls an exchange depends on to run safely: verified users, reviewed withdrawals and visibility across all trading activity. It is the kind of build where the invisible work — matching correctness, custody and administration — matters more than anything on the screen.
