/// INTRODUCTION

Sodio builds ESG and CSR software: reporting platforms aligned to CSRD, GRI, SASB and TCFD, carbon accounting across Scope 1, 2 and 3, ESG data management, and operational systems for donors, grants and volunteers.

Most ESG work is not a reporting problem, it is a data problem — activity data sits in finance, HR, facilities, travel and procurement systems that were never designed to be reported on. We build the layer that collects, reconciles and evidences it, whether that feeds a custom platform or the one you already own.

ESG and Data Architecture
01/

Entity & Boundary Mismatch

There are mature ESG and nonprofit platforms, and for standard disclosure against a standard entity structure they work well. If one of them fits you, buy it. We will say so during discovery rather than quote for a build you do not need.

02/

Data Inaccessible to Platforms

Custom work earns its place when your reporting entity structure, joint ventures or franchise model does not map onto the tool's data model, and you end up maintaining the difference in spreadsheets. The second is source data the platform cannot reach, which in practice means older finance systems, facilities management, regional procurement tools and supplier portals with no usable interface.

03/

Reconcile, Cleanse & Version Ingestion

Migrations are the second. Replatforming without a complete URL map and 301 redirects in place at launch costs organic traffic that took years to earn. We have seen sites lose the majority of their search visibility to a migration nobody thought was risky, and the recovery takes months.

04/

Peak Traffic Changes the Engineering Problem

The third is the most common engagement we see, and it is not a replacement at all. Organisations keep the platform they bought and need a data layer underneath it — something that ingests from the systems the platform cannot reach, reconciles and versions the figures, and hands over clean data with lineage intact.

05/

A Clear Engineering Focus

We approach each problem as a data pipeline challenge, ensuring full compliance and frictionless audit compliance from day one.

///AI FOR ESG AND IMPACT

AI for ESG and Impact Data

ESG work is dominated by manual data collection from documents nobody structured for the purpose. That is where AI earns its place here — extraction, estimation and drafting, always with the source traceable.

Emissions and supplier data pulled from invoices, utility bills and PDFs. The single most manual part of ESG reporting.

Learn More

Supply chain emissions where primary data does not exist, using spend-based and hybrid methods with stated uncertainty.

Learn More

Drafting CSRD, GRI and SASB disclosures from underlying data, with every figure traceable back to its source.

Learn More

Checking sustainability claims against the evidence that supports them, before they are published rather than after.

Learn More

Which donors are about to lapse and which have capacity to give more, with the intervention for each.

Learn More

Matching organisations to relevant funding opportunities, and screening applications against eligibility criteria.

/// HOW WE WORK

How We Work on ESG Projects

STEP 1

Data source audit

We map every system that holds activity data, what it exposes, how often it updates and how trustworthy it is. This usually establishes that the reporting problem is a data problem, and occasionally that a packaged platform would solve it.

STEP 2

Free solution architecture

Ingestion approach per source, data model, lineage and evidence design, framework alignment and a costed delivery plan. Yours to keep whether or not you build with us — including if the recommendation is to buy rather than build.

STEP 3

MVP in 30 days

One reporting boundary, one framework, real data end to end. Enough to see whether the numbers reconcile against what you already publish.

STEP 4

Production build in 90 days

Full ingestion, versioning, restatement handling, evidence trails and reporting output. Additional frameworks and entities are phased after the first one is assured.

/// FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Usually you would not, and we will say so. Packaged platforms cover standard disclosure well. Custom work makes sense when your reporting boundary does not match the tool's entity model, when source data lives in systems the platform cannot reach, or when you need a layer that feeds an existing platform rather than replacing it. That last case is the most common engagement we see.

Less accurate than Scope 1 and 2, and that is expected rather than a failure. Scope 3 typically accounts for the large majority of a corporate footprint, and primary supplier data rarely exists for most categories. The practical answer is spend-based and hybrid methods with stated uncertainty ranges, plus a path to replace estimates with primary data as supplier engagement improves. Any system presenting Scope 3 as a precise figure without an uncertainty range is misrepresenting it.

It can draft them from your data. It should not invent them. The requirement under CSRD and similar regimes is that every figure is traceable to its source and the methodology is disclosed, which means generation has to be grounded in your actual data with the lineage preserved. We build it so an assurance provider can follow any number back to where it came from. A model writing plausible sustainability prose from nothing is a liability.

Yes, and ESG work is mostly integration. Activity data sits in finance, HR, facilities management, travel booking, procurement and supplier systems, and none of it was designed to be reported on. We establish what each system exposes during discovery. Where a source has no usable interface, scheduled extraction or supplier portals are often the honest answer.

Both, though budgets and constraints differ sharply. Corporate CSR and ESG work is usually reporting, data and supplier engagement. Nonprofit work is operational — donor records, grants, volunteers, case management. We are candid about cost with nonprofits, and if a packaged product would serve you better than a custom build, we will tell you rather than quote for one.

CSRD and ESRS, GRI, SASB, TCFD, and the GHG Protocol for emissions accounting. Which apply depends on your jurisdiction, size and listing status. We build the technical controls and data lineage those frameworks require — we are not an assurance provider and do not replace your sustainability or legal advisers.
