CPaaS Platform Development
The platform behind communications APIs — messaging, voice and verification, carrier routing, usage billing and a developer portal — for operators, aggregators and messaging providers building their own CPaaS.
Looking for a provider to send messages or make calls from your app? We build on those too — see VoIP & WebRTC App Development.
TRUSTED BY TEAMS
A communications platform as a service lets developers add messaging, voice and verification to their apps through APIs.
Behind those APIs sits the hard part: connections to operators and channels, routing that balances cost against delivery, compliance rules that differ in every country, delivery tracking, and billing that has to be accurate to the message. Sodio builds CPaaS platforms for operators opening up their networks, aggregators with their own carrier connections, and regional providers serving markets the global platforms do not.
/// USE A CPAAS, OR BUILD ONE?
Use a CPaaS, or Build One?
If you need to send messages or make calls from your own product, use one of the established CPaaS providers — Twilio, Vonage, Sinch, Infobip and others. Building your own makes sense only if communications are the business you are in.
Use an existing CPaaS when
- You need to add SMS, voice, or OTP to an existing software application
- Standard global routes and standard pricing work for your volume
- Compliance registration can be handled through a third-party console
- Communications are a feature of your product, not the product itself
Build your own when
- You are a mobile operator opening up your network directly to developers
- You are an aggregator with direct carrier interconnections and wholesale rates
- You need full ownership of margins, routing logic, and rating engines
- You serve regional markets or compliance regimes that global providers handle poorly
/// WHAT THE PLATFORM COVERS
What a CPaaS Platform Covers
CPaaS solutions look like a few simple APIs from the outside. These are the parts underneath.
Messaging APIs
Voice and verification APIs
Carrier connectivity
Routing engine
Delivery tracking
Numbers and sender IDs
Compliance by market
Usage billing and rating
Developer portal
Fraud protection
/// THE LIFE OF A MESSAGE
From API Call to Delivered Message
A customer's app calls the API
Authenticated and checked against the account's limits
The message is checked
Registration, consent and content rules for the destination applied
A route is chosen
Best carrier selected for cost and delivery, with a fallback
The message goes out
Sent over SMPP or the channel's own interface
The carrier reports back
Delivery receipt recorded and passed to the customer
The message is charged
Rated by destination and deducted from the account in real time
/// COMPLIANCE BY MARKET
A2P Messaging Rules That Differ by Market
Business messaging is regulated differently in almost every country, and carriers filter or block traffic that does not follow the rules.
Connects to operators and aggregators over SMPP and SIP, and to the WhatsApp Business Platform and RCS business messaging.

///AI IN MESSAGING
Where AI Helps a Messaging Platform
Smarter routing
Delivery success predicted by route, destination and time, so traffic moves before a route starts failing.
Fraud and spam
SMS pumping, phishing and spam detected in the traffic, protecting customers and the platform's standing with carriers.
Conversational messaging
AI assistants on WhatsApp and RCS that customers can offer to their own users, with a handover to a person.

A CPaaS handles millions of messages across hundreds of routes. AI helps where the patterns are too many for rules alone.
/// COMPARE
White-Label CPaaS, Assembled Components or Your Own Platform
/// COST AND TIMELINE
What Drives the Cost and Timeline
A working messaging API on your own carrier connections typically arrives within 30 days, with a production platform in 90.
The cost moves with six things: how many channels are offered; how many carrier connections and countries are covered; the throughput required in messages per second; the compliance rules of each market; the billing model, including reseller hierarchies; and the depth of the developer portal and SDKs.
/// FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
CPaaS — communications platform as a service — is a cloud platform that lets developers add messaging, voice, video and verification to their own apps through APIs, without building telecom infrastructure themselves. Behind the APIs sit connections to mobile operators and messaging channels, routing, delivery tracking, compliance and usage billing.
Mostly four kinds of business: mobile operators putting their network capabilities behind APIs, messaging aggregators with their own carrier connections, regional providers serving markets or channels the global platforms serve poorly, and businesses offering white-label messaging to resellers. For almost everyone else, using an existing CPaaS is the right choice.
10DLC is the US system for business text messages sent from ordinary ten-digit phone numbers. Businesses must register their brand and each messaging campaign through The Campaign Registry, and unregistered traffic is filtered or blocked by carriers. A CPaaS serving US customers has to build that registration into onboarding.
Yes. Access to WhatsApp for businesses runs through Meta's Business Solution Provider programme, either by becoming a provider or by connecting through an existing one. RCS business messaging runs through Google and participating carriers. Both can sit behind the same API as SMS, with fallback to SMS when a channel is unavailable.
By watching traffic patterns as they happen. SMS pumping — bots triggering verification messages to premium numbers — shows up as sudden spikes to unusual number ranges from a single application. The platform detects it, limits the affected traffic automatically and alerts the customer before the cost builds up.
Usually by usage: a rate per message or minute that varies by destination and channel, often drawn from a prepaid balance. Rating has to happen in real time, so an account cannot run up costs beyond its balance, and resellers need their own margins on top of your prices.
