/// INTRODUCTION

Sodio builds entertainment software: music apps and streaming platforms, live streaming, podcast infrastructure, fan engagement, film and television production tooling, custom media CMS and rights and royalty management, plus media AI for recommendation, moderation, metadata and localisation.

The constraint that shapes entertainment engineering is rights. What a user can see or hear depends on territory, format and licence window, which means rights metadata belongs in the core data model rather than as a filter applied late.

/// WHAT MAKES ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE DIFFERENT

Rights Decide What the Product Can Be

Music and Entertainment Streaming Platform
01/

Content You Do Not Own

Entertainment software is built on content somebody else owns, and that shapes the architecture before any feature is designed.

02/

Territory, Format and Window

Rights are granted by territory, format and window. The same track is streamable in one country and not another, available this quarter and not next, licensed for audio but not for video backing. That makes rights metadata part of the core data model rather than a filter applied at the end, and it means catalogue, search, recommendation and even caching all have to respect it. Retrofitting rights into a system that assumed a global catalogue usually means rebuilding.

03/

Play Counting

Play counting is the second constraint and it is unusually unforgiving. Counts feed royalty statements, so they have to survive offline playback, partial plays, retries and duplicate events. An inflated count is a payment error; a missing one is a dispute with a rights holder.

04/

Discovery

Discovery is the third, and it is harder than it looks. A catalogue of millions is worthless if users only ever reach the front page, but new releases have no plays and new users have no history. Systems built on behavioural signals alone produce a repetitive experience and a long tail nobody hears.

///AI FOR MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT

AI for Media and Entertainment

Media AI earns its place where a catalogue is too large to curate by hand or a workflow is too expensive to run manually: discovery, moderation, metadata and localisation.

Discovery that surfaces the catalogue beyond the front page, including for users and titles with no history.

Learn More

Stem separation, mastering assistance, automatic tagging, similarity search and generative audio tooling.

Learn More

Machine learning applied across production, distribution and audience — and where it is not worth the compute.

Learn More

Text, image, audio and video moderation at volume, with human review queues and appeal handling.

Learn More

Automatic tagging of media libraries so archives become searchable rather than merely stored.

Learn More

Transcription, translation and voice localisation, with the cost per title that manual workflows cannot reach.

/// HOW WE WORK

How We Work on Entertainment Projects

STEP 1

Rights and catalogue discovery

We establish what you have licensed, in which territories, for which formats and windows, and where the content and metadata actually live. This determines the data model, so it comes before any feature discussion.

STEP 2

Free solution architecture

Rights model, catalogue and metadata design, streaming approach, play counting and royalty reporting, and a costed delivery plan. Yours to keep whether or not you build with us.

STEP 3

MVP in 30 days

One playback path end to end with real content — browse, play, count, report — including territory restriction rather than a global catalogue.

STEP 4

Production build in 90 days

Full build with offline, subscription, recommendation and reporting. Where licensing or content deals are pending, they are scheduled rather than assumed.

/// FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The engineering follows the licence rather than the other way round. Rights are granted by territory, format and window, so the catalogue a user sees depends on where they are and what you have cleared. That means rights metadata is part of the core data model, not a filter applied at the end, and play counting has to be accurate enough to support royalty reporting. We build to whatever your licensing agreements actually permit and will tell you where a product idea exceeds them.

It depends on the format and what you are willing to pay for. Standard HLS gives you 15 to 30 seconds, low-latency HLS brings that to 3 to 8, and WebRTC gets under a second but costs more to scale. The right answer depends on whether your audience interacts. A concert stream tolerates delay; a live auction or interactive show does not. We size this against your use case before choosing a stack.

This is the harder half of the problem and most systems handle it badly. New users have no history and new releases have no plays, so collaborative filtering alone produces an empty or repetitive experience. Content-based signals, audio or metadata similarity and editorial curation cover the gap until behavioural data accumulates. We have built cold-start handling as the primary constraint rather than an afterthought, on an interest-graph platform where there was no social graph to fall back on.

Good enough to triage, not good enough to decide alone. Models reliably catch the obvious and reliably struggle with context, satire and coded language. The workable pattern is automated action on high-confidence violations, a human review queue for everything ambiguous, and an appeal path. Anyone offering fully automated moderation is either overselling or has not run a platform at volume.

Both, though the constraints differ. Rights holders bring existing systems, licensing obligations and long approval cycles. Startups move faster but usually need the architecture designing from scratch, which is the part most underestimate. The engineering discipline is shared; the timelines are not.

For a defined scope we target a working MVP in 30 days and a core production build in 90. Entertainment extends when licensing agreements, rights clearance or third-party content deals are involved, and those run on schedules outside our control. We flag which apply during the free solution architecture.
